Kristen Stewart To Be Snow White?

According to Universal Studios sources, they have offered the role of Snow White to Kristen Strewart if she wants it. After screentesting several actresses for the role, they want her to star alongside Charlize Theron as the Evil Queen and Viggo Mortensen as the Huntsman. Stewart certainly has the colouring required for the role, although it remains to be seen if she can conjoure up Snow White's good nature and grace. Of course, this film version could deviate into far darker territory than the Brothers Grimm literary folk tale, which was used as the basis for Disney's 1930's animated version. In which case, she'd be great. Well, not great, because her acting skills still need quite a bit of work, but you know...she does dark pretty O.K.

Along with the Universal version, there are two other Snow White films in the pipeline, one which has Julia Roberts signed on as the Queen, and another which is in the writing process for a new Disney version. Tough competition, and maybe a slight overloading of the market for that particular tale. As a fan of the older versions of the story, where things are much more gritty and scary and *gasp* rude, I hope that at least one of the versions decides to go down that route. Fairy Tales were originally for grown-ups, you know.
